About the course

The Brewing Intermediate course is a three-day course for anyone who wants to learn more about brewing coffee. It is part of the Coffee Skill Program run by the Specialty Coffee Association. After the course, there are practical and theoretical exams, and if you pass, you get a certificate.

To take the Brewing Intermediate course, it is recommended (but not required) to have already passed the Brewing Foundation, Sensory Skills Foundation and Introduction to Coffee courses.

You must pass the examinations from this course before you can progress to Brewing Professional, and it is also recommended that you have this range of knowledge and skills before you study the Barista module.

The Brewing Intermediate course is ideal for someone who has brewing experience and wants to further explore how to improve the quality of their coffee. The course covers lots of different topics, such as how coffee is brewed, the different steps in the process, why it's important to wet the coffee before brewing, how key brewing settings affect the final cup of coffee, how to measure the strength of extracted coffee scientifically, how to create coffee extraction charts, how to analyse the taste of brewed coffee and espresso, and how to clean and look after your brewing equipment.
