
About the course
The Brewing Professional course is a four-day programme designed for individuals seeking to acquire proficient coffee brewing knowledge and skills. It is a component of the Coffee Skill Program educational framework administered by the Specialty Coffee Association, culminating in both practical and theoretical assessments, the successful completion of which is certified.
Obtaining the Professional level certificate within the Brewing module is a prerequisite for the SCA Skills Diplomas in three of the four areas: SCA Café Diploma, SCA Roastery Diploma, SCA Coffee Trade Diploma. Further information regarding the Diploma scheme can be found on the education.sca.coffee website or in the blog. Additionally, possession of the Brewing Professional certificate allows for future application to become an Authorised SCA Trainer and pursue a career in coffee education.
Prerequisite for enrolment in this course is possession of the Brewing Intermediate Diploma, and it is recommended that candidates have passed the Foundation level of the Sensory Skills module. Additionally, the SCA advises a minimum of three to six months of experience in brewing using handheld and automatic pour-over brewing accessories, which are popular in the community.
The Brewing Professional course builds on the concepts and skills introduced in the Brewing Intermediate course. Participants will be introduced to a more scientific perspective on key brewing parameters, examine the consequences of manipulating multiple parameters simultaneously, and learn to navigate a coffee brewing control chart.Furthermore, participants will gain a more profound understanding of water and its impact on brewing, while also developing their sensory and analytical skills.
