About the course

The Roasting Professional course is a comprehensive four-day program designed for individuals seeking to acquire proficient knowledge and skills in coffee roasting.

It is part of the Coffee Skill Program educational system administered by the Specialty Coffee Association, and upon successful completion, participants receive certification.Obtaining a Professional-level certificate in the Roasting module is a prerequisite for pursuing SCA Skills Diplomas in the four core areas: SCA Café Diploma, SCA Roastery Diploma, SCA Coffee Trade Diploma, SCA Sustainable Coffee Diploma.

In addition, earning the Roasting Professional certificate allows you to apply in the future for the opportunity to become an Authorized SCA Trainer and begin your professional adventure in coffee education.

Prerequisites for this course include the Roasting Intermediate diploma, as well as a passing score in the Intermediate levels of Green Coffee and Sensory Skills. The SCA recommends at least several months of professional or independent research experience.

The Roasting Professional course builds on the concepts and skills introduced in the Roasting Intermediate course. Participants will gain advanced skills in profile development and sensory analysis evaluation. The course covers a wide range of topics, including color control and matching within various and specified time limits, use and configuration of coffee roasting profile software, chemical and physical reactions, including the immersion of browning topics, gas formation during the coffee roasting process, and the effect of roasting on coffee solubility.

In addition, the course introduces knowledge of roastery management and customer surveys to select optimal production options.
